New Opportunities at Gard School
Curve Studio will design the upgrade of the outdoor areas at Gard School in Haugesund. The school has a history dating back to 1864 and is currently a primary school with approximately 400 pupils. The outdoor area features varied topography and consists of several distinct zones with very different characteristics. The schoolyard includes, among other things, a large natural meadow and a hilly woodland area that encourages movement and free play. At the same time, other parts of the outdoor space lack sufficient play and activity opportunities. The goal of the project is to create a cohesive and well-thought-out environment that meets the needs of all age groups.
The project is based on Haugesund Municipality’s report on the condition, accessibility, and needs of the outdoor areas at the municipality’s primary schools. To further highlight issues, wishes, and needs, Curve Studio will carry out a user participation process involving pupils, teachers, and the school’s parent committee (FAU). The findings from this process will form the basis for the design and ensure that the solutions are well grounded in both the site and its users.
Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of 2025.
