Curve Studio are developing proposals for an extensive Urban Games space within LDA Design’s Burgess Park masterplan, winner of the Mayor of London’s ‘Premier Park’ competition. Curve’s remit includes design of a skate plaza with dance and social spaces, concrete bowls and a series of bouldering walls. Unprecedented on this scale, the proposed freeform bowls are oriented towards BMX freestyle, and complement the neighbouring track, which is home to Peckham BMX clubs and 2020 Olympic medalist Kye White. Developed in consultation with the club, the bowls set an exemplary standard for the whole project.

With the London Borough of Southwark’s goal being to create a space for all urban sports, with an even balance for all activities, the project has developed into a spectacular proposal as Southwark embraced the ambition of the BMX club, extending the scope and scale of the project. Brief development has been managed through a series of public consultations with Curve working alongside LDA Design, Parkour Generations and Clark & Kent, to introduce very forms, materials and spatial arrangements, elevating an urban sports facility into public realm design befitting one the world’s leading cities.

Further public consultation is due in 2022 and we are looking forward to presenting London with a project worth of this great city.
